The Beginning

Our first post represented the hike that inspired this blog, from which the name came. Now we're going to go back to the start of our adventures this past summer...

May 9 to June 16, 2012
Logan, Utah, and beyond...

We came to drop off Hero with Nonna and Pop before setting off to the Canyonlands. And while we were here, we hiked a bit and warmed up our shoes for the coming weeks.

The Windcaves and steep Crimson Trail offered images that would
echo throughout the remainder of our summer.

We stood peering out at sea lines of the past
with pockets full of shells snatched from just off the trail.

Caves shaped by the currents.

Then, in the Canyonlands, we witnessed still more shorelines that used to know salty waters.

Eventually, we made our way to the California coast where we saw arches
with ocean crashing right through their middles, massaging their bellies as it receded,
smoothing out the sandstone that it might later abandon.

And we soaked it up, sun and water together.
